WHO WE ARE

Hardy’s Kitchen is owned by us, Lou & Matt Hardy. We are husband and wife and parents to Bella (age 4).

Matt is local to Wirral, being born in Upton. I, however, was born in Cheshire, and until 8 years ago, have lived also in Oxfordshire, Bournemouth, Surrey and London. Until Matt swept me off my feet and brought me back to the North West!

Matt’s passion for food has grown, particularly over the last few years, and something which was a hobby, very quickly developed into a new career path! I started work after Uni, running bars and restaurants in London, so having my own café or restaurant has always been a dream. I worked as a Business Development Manager for my father’s business for over 11 years and this year left to join Hardy's Kitchen full time!

We love entertaining, having friends over for food and wine, relaxing and spending quality time together. We want Hardy’s Kitchen to be the kind of place, people feel they can come to spend time with their friends and family, hang out, graze their way through the menu and not want to leave!

OUR CONCEPT

When Matt and I decided we wanted our own café, we were very clear on the type of place we wanted it to be. We had the look and feel in our heads and when we saw the site at 80 Banks Road, we could visualize the dream immediately. The large windows, corner aspect and cosy feel was perfect. Hardy’s Kitchen was to become a reality!

We like modern industrial décor, and wanted to create a light, airy and comfortable place to enjoy food and drink – somewhere a little different with a twist on the traditional. There are some unique items in Hardy’s Kitchen also…the long table and benches, hand made by Matt and our friend, Chris & the coffee table, which has been made using the very trunk (circa 1930) my father used to go off to University in the swinging 60’s! We hope you like them as much as we do!

Of course, the main aim is to bring great food to our customers as well as a pleasant place to enjoy it! Matt and I designed the menu around the kind of food we eat at home. It’s fresh, tasty and healthy too. We aim to use the best ingredients we can, from local Wirral suppliers and bring it all together in one big pot of love!

We believe that a menu which includes key dishes, to satisfy all tastes, allows us to keep things fresh and interesting. We aim to add dishes to the menu frequently, but may also remove some, according to season.

We knew our breakfasts would be popular and we’ve had some great feedback about our locally sourced and award winning sausages, our Homemade Granola and of course our Fluffy Hens. But we aren’t all about the Breakfasts, the main courses & Social Plates are proving very popular too. You can download our current menu here or see a sample menu (below).

We also have a new supplier of Cookies and Tiffin - the lovely Katie from Squidges. Squidges also specialise in a Gluten Free Rocky Road Cake which is gorgeous!

So another Summer is nearly here and we've already been open in West Kirby for 14 months! The time has flown by. It's time to think about our next venture - Hardy's Kitchen on the road. Our beloved 1979 VW Camper is currently being converted into a mobile food truck. This means we are available for Festivalls, Weddings, Private Parties or Sporting events. We have already secured 2 Festivals in the local area over the Summer. Watch this space for more information!!
